Obtain a Domain Name -

In order to use your own URL (such as www.mywebsite.com), you will need to register it with a 'domain name registrar'. However, with the dwindling supply of good domain names available, your first task will be to find a suitable one (you can start checking here). The price for registration ranges from $15.00 to $35.00 for the first year, although it can go into the hundreds for certain specialized domain extensions, such as .md for physicians.

As with anything else, there are registrars that are more reputable and easier to work with than others, and price is no indication of quality. We work with one of the most respected companies on the Internet and can register your domain name for $25.00 for the first year, and just $20.00 a year after that. We will register your first year for FREE if your company contracts with Planetary Vision for web design and/or hosting.

You can host (see below) a site without having your own domain name, but you would usually have an Internet address such as www.freehosting.com/~yourcompanyname/.

Set Up Hosting -

Once you have a domain name, you will need a hosting account. This is basically renting space on a 'web server' for your web site files. Your hosting is the foundation where your web site will reside and it's reliability & security are critical (particularly for e-commerce applications). Because of this critical nature and the numerous variables involved, we recommend that your company have someone knowledgeable in this technology guiding your hosting choices.

Hosting packages can range in price from free (which usually have mandatory advertising on your site) to well into the thousands per year.

Design & Develop a Web Site -

The final step, of course, is to actually design and build your web site. Once your site is complete, the files will be 'uploaded' to your host's web servers and will be viewable on the Internet.
